Getting married in a church offers something really special. The beautiful, historical church building provides a stunning and atmospheric venue, but that's not all. Marrying in a church is about recognising stories; yours, the wider communities, and God's. For generations people have come to church to marry in the sight of their family and friends, and know that their relationship is founded on promises made on holy ground, and that by marrying in church you become a part of the story too.
Do I have to go to church to get married there?
Not necessarily. We hope you would like to come along and get to know us, but we understand that church worship does not work for everyone. If you would like to be married in church, you will need to meet with the priest who is going to conduct the service so that they can check you are legally eligable to marry.
Can I choose readings and music for my church wedding?
Yes! The marriage service is about you, so it is important that it reflects who you are and the relationship you have. The priest conducting the service will be able to help you select appropriate readings, poems, songs and music to best suit the occassion.
I've previously been divorced. Can I still marry in church?
We welcome those who have been previously divorced and have found love again. You will need to provide your Decree Absolute, or Final Order to show that you are free to marry.
Can we take photos and video during the service?
We understand that you want to capture your special day and can help your photographer or videographer find the best spots for those great shots. Taking pictures inside the church after the service also provides an opportunity to use the church building to greatest effect.
How much does a church wedding cost?
Fees for the service, music licencing and the reading of banns (legally publishing your intention to marry) come to about £700-£800, depending on your circumstances. The Church of England priest can act as a registrar, so no additional registrar is needed (unlike other venues which require you to book a registrar to attend and conduct the service). The estimated costs will be discussed early on, including your options for added extras, such as bell ringing, so you know what to expect. Fees for weddings are payable in advance, a few days before the service.
